The CILIP Copyright Champion Award 2023 has been awarded to Benjamin White, Researcher at the Centre for Intellectual Property and Management, Bournemouth University.
The award, sponsored by Naomi Korn Associates, is a prestigious annual honour that recognises the achievements of a copyright champion in the sector.
Benjamin White was nominated in recognition of his leadership and advocacy for better solutions and regulation on copyright and IP in the field of libraries and information.
White was formerly Head of Intellectual Property at the British Library and has a background in publishing. He is active in the intellectual property field in Europe, having sat on a number of bodies including the BBC's Creative Archive Advisory Board and the UK Government's Creative Economy Programme (Competition and Intellectual Property). He is co-founder of Knowledge Rights 21, an Arcadia funded project to promote copyright reform and open access in Europe for the benefit of research and education.
The award was presented at this year’s CILIP Copyright Conference on 16th May, at which White delivered a presentation on AI and IP.
